Glass Absorber System
Glass absorber systems crafted from borosilicate glass offer an efficient and highly corrosion-resistant solution for scrubbing and absorbing harmful gases. The borosilicate glass construction ensures durability even when exposed to aggressive chemicals and harsh operating conditions.
These systems provide full visual access, allowing operators to closely monitor the mass-transfer process and optimize absorption performance. The transparency helps detect any irregularities early, enhancing safety and process control. Borosilicate glass’s chemical inertness prevents contamination, ensuring high purity and reliable operation.
The systems are designed for energy-efficient gas treatment, reducing operational costs while maintaining effectiveness. Their robust design supports long service life with minimal maintenance. Glass absorbers are especially suitable for chemical, pharmaceutical, and environmental industries that require precise and safe gas absorption. Overall, they combine superior resistance, clear visibility, and operational efficiency in a single package.
- In operation, contaminated gas enters the absorber and passes counter current or co current to an aqueous or chemical scrubbing liquid that flows over the packing or as a thin falling film, providing a large contact surface for mass transfer. The absorbed components are transferred into the liquid phase and cooled in external or built in glass heat exchangers, with recirculation pumps, level and pH controls, and optional mobile skid design enabling stable, continuous duty or flexible pilot scale operation.
- These systems typically use vertical borosilicate glass columns packed with Raschig rings or structured packing or falling film absorbers built as shell and tube exchangers where gas and absorbent liquid flow co currently down glass tubes while coolant circulates on the shell side to remove heat of absorption. All gas contact parts are made from borosilicate glass 3.3 and PTFE, delivering high chemical resistance to mineral acids, halides and oxidizing gases, while glass sight sections, nozzles, and integrated heat exchangers make it easy to monitor liquid levels, temperature and gas–liquid interaction.
- Borosilicate glass absorber systems are widely used for HCl and other acid gas absorption, fume scrubbing, odor control, and gas–liquid reactions in chemical, pharmaceutical, agrochemical and specialty chemical plants, as well as in laboratories and pilot plants. They are also applied for air pollution control, dust laden gas treatment, and recovery of valuable components from waste gases, where their transparency, low maintenance, and ability to handle highly corrosive streams provide clear advantages over metallic scrubbers.
