Sulfuric Acid Concentration Plants
Sulfuric acid concentration plants made with borosilicate glass offer a highly corrosion-resistant environment, ideal for handling aggressive sulfuric acid. These plants are designed to efficiently reconcentrate dilute or spent sulfuric acid back to high concentrations. The use of borosilicate glass not only enhances durability but also provides excellent resistance to chemical corrosion, significantly extending the service life of the equipment.
This material choice minimizes maintenance and replacement costs. Additionally, the transparent nature of borosilicate glass allows for clear process visibility, enabling operators to monitor the acid concentration and roasting process closely. The plants are energy-efficient, optimizing heat usage during concentration to reduce operational costs. This combination of corrosion resistance, durability, visibility, and energy efficiency makes borosilicate glass sulfuric acid concentration plants a reliable and cost-effective solution. They are especially suitable for industries that require safe and sustainable handling of concentrated sulfuric acid. Overall, these plants enhance safety, productivity, and process control in sulfuric acid reconcentration operations.
- Spent or dilute sulfuric acid from process plants is fed to the glass concentration system, where it is preheated, flashed or boiled under controlled vacuum, and partially vaporized water is removed to achieve the target acid strength, often up to about 98 % w/w. The plant is designed for continuous operation with integrated utilities—steam or hot oil for heating, cooling water, vacuum systems and scrubbing of exhaust vapors—so operators can run the unit with minimal downtime for cleaning or maintenance.
- These plants employ borosilicate glass 3.3 equipment for all primary wetted components—columns, evaporators, heat exchangers and headers—often combined with PTFE, fluoropolymers and high nickel or tantalum alloys where additional corrosion resistance is required. Concentration is typically carried out in packed or falling film columns under vacuum to lower boiling temperatures, with optimized heat recovery exchangers and automated controls that minimize energy use, acid losses and operator exposure to hot, corrosive media.
- Borosilicate glass sulfuric acid concentration plants are widely used in chemical, pharmaceutical, dye and pigment, fertilizer and petrochemical facilities where large volumes of sulfuric acid are consumed and recovered, turning a waste stream into a reusable raw material. By reconcentrating and recycling sulfuric acid on site, users reduce fresh acid purchases, cut wastewater treatment loads and meet stringent environmental regulations, while the transparent glass construction aids monitoring, troubleshooting and operator training.
