Multi-Purpose R&D Unit
The Multi Purpose R&D Unit is a fully integrated borosilicate glass system designed for flexible reaction, distillation, and phase separation operations in a single, compact skid.
At its heart is a glass reactor vessel equipped with efficient agitation and precise temperature control, connected to an overhead column, condensers, phase separator, and multiple receivers for complete process workflows.
Borosilicate glass 3.3 provides outstanding chemical resistance, low contamination, and full transparency, allowing researchers to visually monitor boiling, reflux, and phase boundaries throughout the experiment.
Standardised joints and modular sections mean the same unit can be rapidly reconfigured for simple distillation, fractional distillation, extraction steps, or solvent recovery without major hardware changes.
The compact skid mounted design integrates structure, utilities, and safety devices—such as vacuum relief, temperature and pressure monitoring—into a small footprint that fits easily into crowded R&D or kilo lab areas.
Typical applications include route scouting, scale up studies, solvent swap operations, azeotropic drying, and purification of high value intermediates in pharmaceutical, fine chemical, and specialty materials development.
- The unit supports a complete workflow: charge and react in the main vessel, distil through the column, condense and route vapours via the condenser, then separate organic/aqueous phases in the phase separator before collecting in the receivers.
- Transparent borosilicate construction provides full visual monitoring of boiling, reflux, and phase boundaries, simplifying process optimization and scale up studies for R&D teams.
- The heart of the unit is a glass reactor with a mechanical stirrer, jacket or heating bath, cooling coil, flush bottom valve, and dip tube, ensuring precise temperature control and efficient mass transfer.
- An overhead fractional column with glass coil condenser, vent valve, and reflux take off allows both simple and fractional distillation under atmospheric or vacuum conditions.
- The system incorporates an addition vessel with line and angle valves for safe, metered reagent charging, plus a downstream phase separator with dip pipe for smooth layer separation, U loop, and dual receiver vessels with individual drain valves for clean fraction or phase collection.
- Ideal for pharmaceutical and fine chemical development where the same equipment must handle synthesis, solvent exchange, purification, and solvent recovery on a kilo lab or pilot scale.
- Well suited to academic and industrial research labs for studying new reaction routes, biphasic systems, and distillation schemes, as well as for small batch production of high value specialty chemicals.
