Mixing Reactor
A Mixing Reactor made of borosilicate glass is a compact, high visibility system for carrying out controlled chemical reactions with efficient agitation, heating, and cooling in laboratory, kilo lab, and pilot plant environments.
At its core is a cylindrical borosilicate 3.3 reactor vessel, configured as single wall or jacketed, which offers universal corrosion resistance, smooth non contaminating surfaces, and full visual monitoring of reaction progress, phase changes, and crystallisation.
The vessel is mounted on a rigid support or mobile trolley and closed with a multi neck glass lid that accommodates an overhead stirrer, feed and vent nozzles, temperature probes, pressure/vacuum connections, and optional condensers or receivers for reflux and distillation work.
Jacketed designs circulate heat transfer fluid around the vessel, enabling rapid heating and cooling across a broad operating window, typically from cryogenic temperatures up to around 200 °C under full vacuum to slight overpressure.
Variable speed agitation, often with PTFE coated or glass impellers and baffle systems, delivers uniform mixing, good suspension of solids, and reliable mass and heat transfer for both low viscosity and more viscous formulations.
Typical operations include synthesis, dissolution, precipitation, crystallisation, extraction, and solvent exchange, with the same reactor easily reconfigured—by changing condensers, receivers, or column sections—for reaction distillation or reflux studies.
Mixing Reactors in borosilicate glass are widely used in pharmaceutical R&D, fine chemicals, specialty polymers, and academic laboratories, where cleanability, inert product contact, and the ability to directly see the process are crucial for safe, efficient scale up.
