Structured packing is considered to be even more effective than random packing. The choice of MOS is limited though. These are usually made out of corrugated sheets arranged in a manner that creates complex flow channels through the column, thereby creating large surface area for contact between interacting fluids.
Structured packing may be of grid type or wire mesh. The MOCs available are metal (SS 304/316) and ceramic. In ceramic, honeycomb design is also available.
